Friars Court open as part of the National Garden Scheme

Friars Court has been the home of the Willmer family for over a century. Its three acres of formal and informal gardens are enclosed by the surviving arms of a 16th-century moat, which partially surrounds the 17th-century Cotswold stone manor house. The grounds are divided into a series of smaller garden “rooms,” each with its own subtly distinct character.
To the front of the house lies an expanse of lawn leading to restored carp ponds, now filled with reeds and water lilies, and edged with native marginal plants and two living willow tunnels. Behind the house, ornamental trees and mixed borders provide seasonal interest, complemented by the new, playfully-designed, Labyrinth Garden. A level path meanders through part of the grounds, while three bridges — two flat and one arched — span the moat.
The old Coach House houses a small museum where visitors can read the story of Friars Court and view historical artifacts recovered from the surrounding farmland. Afternoon teas will be served in the Garden Room.
