Venue:- Aston Pottery, Bampton Road, Bampton, Oxfordshire OX18 2BT
Aston Pottery has developed some of the most innovative and spectacular gardens to be seen anywhere in Britain today. All planting is done in response to the plants characteristics, i.e. the hot bank is planted as a hill side of perennial plants but using plants that rot and die elsewhere in the garden. For example, eremurus lilies, lobelia tupa, cannas and dahlias.
Whilst the annual border with nearly 6000 annuals is just an excuse to plant over 120 annuals, from sunflowers to ricinus, cosmos to cleome, asters to zinnias and clarkia to calendula. It is without doubt the largest wall of annual flowers you will see anywhere in Britain today, being 80 metres long and over 7 metres wide. The dahlia border features over 380 dahlias all planted within 32 rooms created by the planting of 3 grasses. Each room holds 12 dahlias and are separated into their categories of waterlily, ball, cactus, decorative and collarette, and are off-set by plantings of agapanthus and asters.
Our Hornbeam Walk is planted to give a new experience to the knowing eye every month. If bees and butterflies are your thing, come between July and August for a chance to see our rare Black Bumble Bee, Bombus ruderatus.
