Some comments from our presenters on why they joined WRFM.

I’m Big Rich your Sunday morning dj on WRFM, not something I expected when I did a guest slot on another show, but here I am some five years on.It’s a true privilege to have the opportunity of playing my favourite tunes, discovering new ones all the time and being able to share them across the airwaves with whoever may be out there? If you are, thanks for being my listener

As they used to sing in the seventies, float on….Big Rich (Sunday Breakfast, From Here To There)

When people find out that I’m a presenter on WRFM, they sometime ask me “how I got into radio”. This is my story… I was asked to be a guest on Cotswold Hospital Radio to talk about my 30+ years as a projectionist at the Odeon Cheltenham and my hobby of herpetology. After about a month I hadn’t heard a thing from the presenter regarding a recording. Then a week later the phone rang and the Chairman of CHR (Colin) said he was pleased I was doing the show. I replied that I can spare 20 minutes or so for the interview. I think he was taken aback as he replied that it was an hour show. It soon became apparent that we were talking about different things. It turned out that her producer had left CHR and she had said I would produce her show! This was news to me, I said I would ‘have a go’ ….. and the rest is history. Chris Martin (Light Bites, The Magical Musical Mystery Tour)

I’ve been at WRFM since 2017 and have presented shows on Sunday Mornings, Friday Nights and now Sunday Evenings. The thing I enjoy the most about doing a programme is the chance to play music that people may not have heard before. You may know the band, of course, but they all have those deep cuts that you don’t know that might just become your favourite track by them.I also like playing those artists you may not know. Stuff from the early days of rock and roll or those brilliant 60’s soul groups or Ska bands and hopefully it introduces my listeners to those as well so they can go and explore them. I’m really lucky to do what I do and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Mark (The Sunday Evening Show)

My name is Graham aka “animal” drummer from Freefall. I do the Rockomania show on Tuesday nights from 7 till 9. I fell into presenting by accident. Ben, who originally hosted the show was leaving and it was his dad and Simon who suggested to me to “have a go” at it as I had been a drummer in a local band for 30 years and they thought I might know a bit about rock music ……I was a bit worried as I am the one who sits at the back and never speaks …… but after my first show I was hooked. I love having guests in and they have all been great. I’ve always loved music of all genre’s but rock and blues are my favourites, so Rockomania is the perfect show for me and I love being part of the WRFM family, everyone is great and so helpful, as anyone who knows me will know, me and technology don’t mix well……..Graham (Rockomania)

“Hi I’m Grant, aka Mr G, I’ve had a passion for music since an early age and missed the opportunity to join radio while at college as it was a closed shop and cliquey. When I saw the opportunity to join a local radio station I jumped at the chance. There are so many skills that you can learn and bring to help the station succeed. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to play the music I love and become involved in interviews and all aspects of a truly local radio station. If you are motivated and driven the sky is the limit at here at WRFM” Grant (The New Music Show, G-Force Show and others)
